Psychology Jargon and Misinformation - Part One in a series

Sometimes it looks like everyone on social media is a psychologist.

Here is what CHAT AI wrote about this:

“The misuse of psychology on social media is a growing concern in today's digital age. Psychology, with its understanding of human behavior and cognition, is often employed on social media platforms not just to enhance user experience but also to manipulate behavior for various purposes, often without the user's explicit awareness or consent.

Past, Present and Future of Psychology

Ralph and Jim are joined by Dr. Jerry Fuller, professor emeritus and former president of Clinical Psychology publishing Co. They discuss the early days of a university Psychology Department. How it came to flourish, maintain and moves into twilight as funding is cut back for mental health training and gets prioritized for STEM.

They agree that there is a mental health crisis and see that part of the solution is in telemedicine and therapy.

Are You Bored and overloaded at the same time?

 

Ralph and Jim discuss a recent episode from the NPR series The Pulse. It seems as if more and more people: children, teens and adults are bored with their daily life and are becoming addicted to the dopamine rush they get as they seek external stimulation  on their devices.. Ralph compares this to heroin use and what he called “the search for the dragon”.
