Something new; check below for new meditation videos and news about our on line courses.
Today the boys clear up the confusion over the use of the terms in the last podcast. Then, instead of talking about unconscious bias as planned they tackled the rumor that the president could be removed from office by invoking the 35th amendment to the U>S> constitution. As they unpacked that, it became clear that would be a political decision, not one backed by physical health or mental health data.

However, there are concepts in the field that are difficult to understand and are mixed up. We looked at some of these in our last podcast – we continue to do so in this podcast.

Psychology Jargon and Misinformation - Part One in a series
Wednesday Jul 03, 2024
Wednesday Jul 03, 2024
Sometimes it looks like everyone on social media is a psychologist.
Here is what CHAT AI wrote about this:
“The misuse of psychology on social media is a growing concern in today's digital age. Psychology, with its understanding of human behavior and cognition, is often employed on social media platforms not just to enhance user experience but also to manipulate behavior for various purposes, often without the user's explicit awareness or consent.
One significant misuse is the exploitation of psychological vulnerabilities to increase user engagement. Social media algorithms are designed to keep users hooked by leveraging principles such as intermittent reinforcement (rewarding users unpredictably), social validation (likes and shares), and fear of missing out (FOMO). These tactics can lead to addictive behavior and excessive use, affecting mental health negatively.
Moreover, psychological profiling and targeted advertising techniques are used extensively to influence user decisions and opinions. By analyzing user data and behavior, advertisers can create personalized messages that exploit individual preferences, biases, and emotional triggers. This can lead to echo chambers, where users are exposed only to information that confirms their existing beliefs, polarizing society further.
Psychological manipulation on social media can also extend to misinformation campaigns and fake news dissemination. By understanding how cognitive biases like confirmation bias and availability heuristic work, malicious actors can spread false information effectively, exploiting people's tendency to trust information that aligns with their beliefs or is readily available.
In conclusion, while psychology can be used positively to enhance user experience and facilitate meaningful interactions on social media, its misuse poses significant ethical and societal challenges. Addressing these issues requires a balanced approach involving ethical guidelines, transparency in data use, and empowering users with critical thinking skills to navigate the digital landscape responsibly.”
Jim and Ralph will be further exploring these notions in the weeks ahead.

Are You Bored and overloaded at the same time?
Wednesday Jun 12, 2024
Wednesday Jun 12, 2024
Ralph and Jim discuss a recent episode from the NPR series The Pulse. It seems as if more and more people: children, teens and adults are bored with their daily life and are becoming addicted to the dopamine rush they get as they seek external stimulation on their devices.. Ralph compares this to heroin use and what he called “the search for the dragon”.
